Alex Ovechkin’s Record Breaking Goal
This piece is a satirical tribute to Alex Ovechkin—one of hockey’s most dominant figures and a Russian icon playing for the Washington Capitals. Styled in the bold visual language of Russian Constructivism, the design plays with the irony of national identity, media spectacle, and sports mythology. “Deep State” is used here as a tongue-in-cheek nod to how modern narratives—both political and cultural—can be spun, repurposed, and mythologized. It’s not an endorsement, but a reflection of how icons are caught in the crosshairs of culture, politics, and fandom. As a fan, this work celebrates Ovechkin’s singular legacy while poking at the tension of playing for the capital of a nation often positioned in ideological opposition. The message? Art, like sport, is full of contradictions.
This is the first of a series that I will be including periodically.
